Tigers, Padres Set for Second Game of Series in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers and San Diego Padres continue their opening series Friday at PETCO Park, with the Tigers looking to build on a decisive opening-day victory.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT under cloudy skies with temperatures around 70 degrees.
The Tigers (1-0) rolled to an 8-2 win Thursday behind a strong start from Tarik Skubal, who allowed three hits over six scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Kevin McGonigle went 4 for 5 with two RBIs, and Dillon Dingler added a two-run homer.
Detroit will send left-hander Framber Valdez to the mound. Valdez enters with a season record of wins and losses.
San Diego (0-1), which managed just two runs on five hits Thursday, will counter with right-hander Michael King. King has a season record of wins and losses.
A player to watch for the Padres is reliever Bradgley Rodriguez, who fired two perfect innings with three strikeouts in Thursday’s loss.
Despite being installed as a -1.5 run favorite, Detroit faces conflicting projections. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 1-0 Tigers victory, while its ELO rating system gives San Diego a 57.7% probability to win. The over/under for total runs is set at 7.
Following Friday’s contest, the series concludes Saturday before both teams embark on road trips. Detroit visits Arizona for three games starting Monday, while San Diego hosts San Francisco for a three-game set beginning the same day.
