Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals, two teams long eliminated from postseason contention, will open a doubleheader Tuesday at Nationals Park in the finale of their three-game series.
The Braves (67-83) evened the series with an 11-3 rout on Monday, powered by a pair of four-RBI performances from Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin. Olson went 4 for 5 with a home run and Baldwin added a 3-for-5 night with a homer. Spencer Strider delivered a quality start, allowing one earned run over seven innings.
Atlanta has won two of its last three games but is just 5-10 in its last 15 contests. The Nationals (62-88) had a three-game winning streak snapped in Monday’s loss. They had taken two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates over the weekend.
Despite the lopsided result Monday, the season series has been tightly contested. The Braves hold a 4-3 edge in the seven meetings so far in 2025, with four of those games decided by two runs or fewer.
Projections for the opener are split. Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 6-4 victory for the Nationals. However, the same outlet’s ELO rating system gives the Braves a 57.1% probability to win. Betting markets have installed Atlanta as a road favorite with a -1.5 run spread. The over/under for total runs is set at 9.
Following the doubleheader, the two clubs will meet for one more game Wednesday before concluding their season series with a three-game set in Atlanta next week.
