Houston Astros at Oakland Athletics

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Houston Astros look to salvage the finale of a three-game set against the Athletics on Thursday afternoon at Sutter Health Park after being shut out a day prior.

The Astros (84-73) have dropped the first two games of the series, including a 5-1 loss on Tuesday and a rain-delayed contest Wednesday that was scoreless when play was suspended. Houston’s offense has struggled recently, scoring three or fewer runs in six of its last 10 games.

Oakland (74-83), however, has found momentum, winning four of its last six. The Athletics have dominated the season series, winning eight of the 12 meetings, including the last four. Their pitching staff held Houston to just one run in the first two games of this series.

A statistical divergence sets the stage for the series finale. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-5 Athletics victory, while its ELO rating system gives the Astros a slight edge with a 52.4% probability to win.

The game will be played under clear skies with a first-pitch temperature near 78 degrees. Following the game, Houston travels to Anaheim for a weekend series with the Los Angeles Angels, while the Athletics host the Kansas City Royals.
