Texas Rangers at Cleveland Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — In a season finale defined by a stunning extra-inning rally, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Texas Rangers 9-8 on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, at Progressive Field, capping their season with a dramatic walk-off victory.

A crowd of 31,054 watched the 3-hour, 15-minute contest that saw the Guardians erase a three-run deficit in the bottom of the 10th inning. Brayan Rocchio delivered the decisive blow, launching a three-run, walk-off home run to seal the win for Cleveland.

The game began as a back-and-forth affair. The Guardians struck first in the bottom of the opening inning when Johnathan Rodríguez lined a two-run single to right field, scoring Steven Kwan and Angel Martínez.

Texas responded in the top of the second. With two runners on, Alejandro Osuna doubled to right field, driving in Jonah Heim and Dylan Moore to tie the game. The Rangers took the lead an inning later when Jake Burger singled home Cody Freeman and Josh Jung, putting Texas ahead 4-2.

Cleveland chipped away with a run in the third on a sacrifice fly from Bo Naylor, but Texas added another in the sixth. Billy McKinney scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Helman that resulted in a Cleveland error, extending the Rangers’ lead to 5-3.

The Guardians began their methodical comeback in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Jhonkensy Noel. They pulled within a run in the eighth when Rocchio lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Naylor.

The game moved to the 10th inning, where the Rangers appeared to seize control. Pinch-hitter Rowdy Tellez blasted a three-run homer off Guardians reliever Zak Kent, giving Texas an 8-5 lead.

Facing Rangers reliever Jose Corniell in the bottom of the 10th, Cleveland mounted its final charge. Bo Naylor doubled to center field, scoring George Valera. After Petey Halpin walked, Rocchio stepped to the plate and sent a 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall for a game-winning, three-run homer.

The victory gave Cleveland a final record of 88-74, while Texas finished its season at .500 with 81 wins and 81 losses.

Kent earned the win for Cleveland, moving his record to 1-0 despite surrendering Tellez’s home run. Corniell took the loss for Texas, falling to 0-1.

Cleveland’s bullpen, featuring scoreless outings from Kolby Allard and Matt Festa, was instrumental in keeping the game close. Rangers starter Patrick Corbin went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out five. His Cleveland counterpart, Logan Allen, lasted 4 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits.

The game concluded a three-game series in which Cleveland took two of three from Texas. The final score of 17 runs combined far exceeded the pregame over/under line of 8.
