Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox

BOSTON (Interstat) — A playoff berth will be on the line Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park when the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox conclude their regular seasons with a winner-take-all finale.

With identical records after splitting the first two games of the series, the American League rivals enter Sunday’s game with the winner securing a postseason spot. Boston is 88-73; Detroit is 87-74. The Tigers evened the series with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The marquee pitching matchup features Detroit’s Tarik Skubal (13-6) against a Red Sox starter to be announced. Skubal has been the ace of the Tigers’ staff all season.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Red Sox are projected to win 6-1. However, the head-to-head series has been tightly contested all year, with three of the five meetings decided by one run, including a 10-9 Detroit victory in 11 innings back in May.

Both teams have been inconsistent down the stretch. The Tigers had lost five of six before Saturday’s win, while the Red Sox had dropped seven of their last 11 games prior to their Friday afternoon victory.

First pitch is scheduled for Sunday evening. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature of 75 degrees at the historic ballpark.
