Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — The Houston Astros, clinging to postseason hopes, open their final road series of the season Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.

Houston (85-74) arrives after splitting a four-game set in Oakland, including an 11-5 victory on Thursday. Framber Valdez struck out 10 over seven innings in that win, while Christian Walker homered and drove in three runs. The Astros have gone 5-5 over their last 10 games.

The Angels (71-87), long eliminated from contention, are playing for pride after taking two of three from Kansas City earlier this week. Their bullpen was dominant in a 3-2 win on Wednesday, with Yusei Kikuchi, Kenley Jansen and Luis García combining for seven innings of one-run ball.

The season series between the American League West rivals has been tightly contested, with Houston holding a 6-4 edge. The teams last met over Labor Day weekend in Houston, where they split a four-game set. The Astros won the most recent matchup 8-3 on Sept. 1.

With just three games remaining, every contest is critical for the Astros as they look to secure a wild-card berth. The Angels, meanwhile, will aim to play spoiler in front of their home crowd in the final weekend.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Astros are projected to win the series opener 5-1.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:38 p.m. PDT.
