Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee Brewers
MILWAUKEE (Interstat) — The Cincinnati Reds, riding the momentum of a strong pitching performance, open their final series of the season Friday against the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.
The Reds (81-78) arrive after taking two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates, capped by a 2-1 victory on Thursday. Starter Nick Lodolo struck out 12 over 6 1/3 scoreless innings in the win. Cincinnati has won seven of its last 10 games but was officially eliminated from playoff contention earlier this week.
They’ll face a Brewers (96-63) team that has dominated the division and is tuning up for the postseason. Milwaukee is coming off a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
Right-hander Zack Littell (10-8, 4.15 ERA) is the probable starter for the Reds. The Brewers had not announced a starter as of Thursday afternoon.
The season series has been tightly contested, with the Brewers holding a 6-4 edge. The teams last met in mid-August in Cincinnati, where the Reds won the series finale 3-2 after the Brewers took the first two games.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be another close one, with a predicted final score of Brewers 6, Reds 5.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CDT. The three-game series continues through Sunday, marking the end of the regular season for both clubs.
