Nola’s Near-Perfect Effort Leads Phillies Past Twins

PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Aaron Nola carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and struck out nine over eight strong frames, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Nola (5-10) allowed just two hits and one walk, moving into second place on the Phillies’ career strikeout list. The only blemish was a solo home run by Christian Vázquez in the sixth that broke up the perfect game and no-hit bid. The Phillies scored on a first-inning sacrifice fly from Alec Bohm, a fifth-inning homer by Edmundo Sosa and an RBI double from Brandon Marsh in the sixth. Jhoan Duran earned his 32nd save. Joe Ryan (13-10) took the loss for Minnesota. The announced attendance was 40,073.
