Texas Rangers at Cleveland Guardians
CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians, holding a postseason position, will look to extend their recent home success when they open a three-game series against the visiting Texas Rangers on Friday night at Progressive Field.
The Guardians (86-72) enter the final weekend of the regular season having won 10 of their last 14 games, including a 5-1 victory over Detroit on Wednesday. Tanner Bibee pitched six strong innings in that win, and All-Star third baseman José Ramírez drove in two runs.
Cleveland will face a Rangers team (80-79) that was officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 4-0 loss to Minnesota on Thursday. Despite the defeat, Texas received solid pitching from Tyler Mahle and its bullpen.
The Rangers, however, dominated the last meeting between these clubs, sweeping a three-game set in Arlington in August. Texas outscored Cleveland 19-3 in that series, including back-to-back shutouts of 10-0 and 5-0.
“This is a different time of year and we’re playing in a different environment,“ Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. “Our focus is on finishing strong and carrying momentum.“
The weather forecast calls for clear skies and a first-pitch temperature of 66 degrees.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Guardians are projected to win 7-2.
The series continues Saturday and Sunday to conclude the regular season for both clubs.
