Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers, clinging to slim postseason hopes, will send veteran ace Jacob deGrom to the mound Wednesday night against the Minnesota Twins at Globe Life Field.
The Rangers (79-77) have dropped four straight, including a 2-1 loss to the Twins on Tuesday, and need a strong final week to stay in the American League wild-card conversation. They will rely on deGrom (12-8), who has been a bright spot in an inconsistent season.
He will be opposed by Minnesota’s Taj Bradley (6-8). The Twins (67-89) snapped a three-game skid with Tuesday’s victory, powered by strong pitching and a late home run.
Weather could be a factor, with a forecast of 89 degrees and rain at first pitch.
The season series has been marked by offensive explosions, including a 16-3 Rangers win in June, but Tuesday’s contest was a pitchers’ duel. Minnesota will look to carry momentum from its Sunday win over Cleveland, where Royce Lewis hit a pivotal pinch-hit, three-run homer.
Texas, meanwhile, seeks to reverse its recent fortunes after a 4-2 loss to Miami on Sunday. Rookie Wyatt Langford provided a lone highlight with a home run in that game.
According to Interstat, the Rangers are projected to win 4-3 and are pregame favorites with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs.
Following the game, the teams conclude their series Thursday before both hit the road for their final series of the season.
