New York Mets at Chicago Cubs

CHICAGO (Interstat) — The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs will look to rebound from recent losses when they conclude a brief two-game series at Wrigley Field on Wednesday.

The Mets (80-76) dropped two of three to the Washington Nationals over the weekend, including a 3-2 loss on Sunday despite strong relief work from Clay Holmes, Edwin Díaz and Gregory Soto. The Cubs (88-68) were just swept in a four-game series by the Cincinnati Reds, capped by a 1-0 defeat on Sunday where Jameson Taillon pitched seven strong innings in a losing effort.

New York left-hander Matthew Boyd (13-8) is scheduled to start against a Cubs lineup that has struggled recently. Chicago’s starter had not been announced as of Tuesday.

The series opened with a 6-6 tie on Tuesday. The Mets took three of four from the Cubs at Citi Field in May.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projection favors the Cubs to snap their skid with a 5-4 victory.

Following Wednesday’s contest, the Mets travel to Miami for a three-game series to close the regular season. The Cubs remain at home to face the St. Louis Cardinals in a final three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 68 degrees.
