Detroit Tigers at Cleveland Guardians

CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The American League Central race will be on the line Wednesday night when the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians, tied atop the division with identical 85-72 records, meet in the second game of a critical season-ending series at Progressive Field.

The Guardians took the series opener 5-2 on Tuesday, extending their recent dominance over the Tigers. Cleveland has won six of the last seven meetings between the clubs, including a three-game sweep in Detroit last week.

Both teams will send right-handers to the mound looking to reverse their individual fortunes. Detroit’s Jack Flaherty (8-14) will seek his first win this month against Cleveland’s Tanner Bibee (11-11). Flaherty has struggled this season, while Bibee has been steady, though both pitchers will face lineups hungry to break the deadlock.

The Tigers have lost five of their last six games overall. The Guardians, meanwhile, have won seven of their last 10 and are riding the momentum of a strong homestand.

Despite Cleveland’s recent upper hand, Detroit has been installed as a slight pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs. However, Interstat’s game simulator projects a decisive 7-1 victory for the Guardians.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 73 degrees. The series concludes Thursday before both teams embark on their final regular-season road trips.
