Miami Marlins at Philadelphia Phillies
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins, riding a five-game winning streak, will look to continue their late-season push when they open a three-game series against the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.
The pitching matchup features right-hander Edward Cabrera (7-7, 4.50 ERA) for the Marlins against the Phillies’ left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (13-5, 3.12 ERA). Sánchez has been a key part of Philadelphia’s rotation this season, while Cabrera seeks consistency for Miami.
The Marlins (76-80) arrive in Philadelphia fresh off a three-game road sweep of the Texas Rangers, including a 4-2 victory on Sunday. Miami has won eight of its last 10 games but remains mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
The Phillies (92-64), who have already clinched a postseason berth, are looking to rebound after dropping two of three to the Arizona Diamondbacks, including a 9-2 loss on Sunday.
This series is a rematch from earlier this month when the teams split a four-game set in Miami from Sept. 5-7. The Phillies hold a 6-4 advantage in the season series.
Despite Miami’s recent surge, statistical models favor the home team. Interstat’s ELO system gives the Phillies a 65.7% probability to win, though its game simulator paradoxically projects an 8-6 Marlins victory. Philadelphia is installed as a -1.5 run favorite, with an over/under of 7.5 runs.
The series continues Wednesday and Thursday in Philadelphia before both teams conclude their regular seasons with weekend series at home.
