CLEVELAND (Interstat) — José Ramírez’s go-ahead RBI single in a strange sixth-inning rally lifted the Cleveland Guardians to a 5-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night, pulling the teams into a tie for first place in the AL Central.

The Guardians, who trailed by 15 1/2 games on July 8, erased Detroit’s lead by scoring three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. Riley Greene homered for the Tigers, who have lost seven straight. Cleveland’s Gavin Williams struck out 12 over six innings for the win. Tarik Skubal took the loss for Detroit. A crowd of 29,571 at Progressive Field watched the 2-hour, 30-minute game.
