Milwaukee Brewers at St. Louis Cardinals
ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — The Milwaukee Brewers will look to avoid a series sweep and steady themselves for the postseason Sunday afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. CDT.
The National League Central champion Brewers (94-60) have dropped the first two games of the series, including a 7-1 loss on Friday and a 2-1 defeat on Saturday. Despite their recent stumble, Milwaukee holds a commanding division lead and is tuning up for the playoffs.
The Cardinals (75-79), long eliminated from contention, have played spoiler effectively, winning five of their last six meetings with Milwaukee, including a three-game sweep in St. Louis from Sept. 12-14.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Brewers victory.
Milwaukee’s offense has been quiet in the series, managing just two total runs. They will need to find a spark against a Cardinals pitching staff that has held them in check.
St. Louis’ Nolan Arenado drove in three runs in Friday’s win, and veteran starter Sonny Gray delivered a strong outing, allowing one earned run over six innings while striking out seven.
Following Sunday’s finale, the Brewers travel to San Diego for a three-game set starting Monday. The Cardinals head to San Francisco to begin a three-game series on Monday.
