Washington Nationals at New York Mets

NEW YORK (Interstat) — The New York Mets will look to rebound from an extra-inning loss and keep their faint playoff hopes alive when they host the Washington Nationals in the finale of a three-game series Sunday evening at Citi Field.

The Mets (80-75) saw a three-game winning streak snapped with a 5-3, 11-inning loss to the last-place Nationals (63-92) on Saturday. The teams have split the first two games of the series, with New York winning 12-6 on Friday.

Despite Saturday’s setback, the Mets have won six of their last nine games. They remain on the periphery of the National League wild-card chase but will likely need a near-perfect finish to secure a postseason berth.

The Nationals, long eliminated from contention, have played the role of spoiler effectively. Saturday’s victory was their third in their last five games. Washington has won the season series against the Mets, holding an 8-5 advantage in head-to-head matchups with one game remaining.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Mets are projected to win 4-2. New York has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 8.5 runs.

Following Sunday’s contest, the Mets embark on a six-game road trip to close the season, with series against the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins. The Nationals travel to Atlanta for a three-game series against the Braves before returning home to host the Chicago White Sox to end their year.

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT.
