Cleveland Guardians at Minnesota Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins will open a day-night doubleheader Saturday at Target Field, with the Guardians looking to continue their late-season push and extend their recent dominance in the season series.

Cleveland (81-71) enters the twin bill 10 games above .500 and winners of 12 of its last 15 contests, including a 3-1 victory at Detroit on Thursday. José Ramírez homered and drove in two runs in that win, while starter Tanner Bibee was sharp, allowing one earned run over six innings with eight strikeouts.

The Twins (66-86), conversely, have struggled down the stretch, losing eight of their last 10 games. They are coming off a 10-5 loss to the New York Yankees on Wednesday, a game in which shortstop Brooks Lee went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Guardians have controlled the head-to-head matchup this season, holding a 7-3 advantage. The teams split a four-game series in Cleveland from Aug. 1-3 and the Guardians took two of three in Minneapolis back in May. The clubs opened this series with a pitchers’ duel Friday afternoon, a game that was scoreless through nine innings before it was suspended. That contest will be completed Sunday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Cleveland is projected to take the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader by a score of 8-4.

First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for the afternoon, with the afternooncap to follow in the evening.

Following the doubleheader, the series concludes Sunday. Cleveland then returns home for a six-game homestand against Detroit and Texas to close the regular season. Minnesota embarks on a seven-game road trip to Texas and Philadelphia after Sunday’s finale.
