Toronto Blue Jays at Kansas City Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Toronto Blue Jays will look to bounce back from a pair of shutout losses and reignite their offense when they continue their weekend series against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday.
The Blue Jays (89-64), firmly in the American League playoff chase, were blanked 4-0 by the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday and then again 0-0 by the Royals in Friday’s series opener. Despite the recent lack of scoring, Toronto has won 10 of its last 16 games.
Kansas City (76-77), sitting just below .500, snapped a two-game skid with Friday’s defensive stalemate. The Royals have been inconsistent, alternating wins and losses over their last 10 contests.
The season series between the clubs is tied 2-2. After Friday’s scoreless affair, the Royals took two of three from the Blue Jays in Toronto back in early August.
Toronto’s offense, which exploded for 11 runs against Baltimore on Sept. 14, has managed just one run over its last 27 innings. They will need to find their form against a Kansas City pitching staff that held Seattle to two runs in its previous series before Friday’s shutout.
The Royals’ bats have also struggled lately, scoring three runs or fewer in six of their last 10 games. Their most recent win was a 7-5 victory over Seattle on Wednesday.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Blue Jays are projected to break out of their slump in a significant way with a 7-3 victory.
Following Saturday’s contest, the two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday. Toronto then heads home for a seven-game homestand against Boston and Tampa Bay to close the regular season. Kansas City embarks on its final road trip, a seven-game West Coast swing against the Los Angeles Angels and the Athletics.
