New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles
BALTIMORE (Interstat) — The New York Yankees will look to build on a dominant pitching performance and tighten their grip on a playoff spot when they continue a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The Yankees (86-67) enter the contest riding high after a 7-0 shutout victory over the Orioles on Thursday. Left-hander Max Fried was sensational, striking out 13 over seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball. Amed Rosario added two RBIs to lead the offense.
New York has won two straight and seven of its last 10 games as it jockeys for postseason positioning in the American League. The Yankees’ offense has been potent, scoring seven or more runs in four of their last six victories.
Conversely, the Orioles (72-81) have struggled against the Yankees this season, dropping five of the seven meetings, including the last three. In Thursday’s loss, starter Cade Povich took the loss, allowing three earned runs over five innings. The Baltimore offense was blanked for the second time in the season series.
The Orioles had found some success prior to this series, winning series against Pittsburgh, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox, but they have been outscored 38-10 by the Yankees in their three losses this year.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, a high-scoring affair is projected with a predicted final score of 7-6 in favor of the Yankees. Their ELO rating system gives New York a 55.4% probability to win. Betting markets have installed the Yankees as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 9 runs.
Following Friday’s contest, the two teams will meet again on Saturday and Sunday in Baltimore to complete the series. They are scheduled to face each other again for a three-game set in New York from Sept. 26-28 to close out the regular season.
