San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks will meet for the third straight day Wednesday afternoon at Chase Field, with the two National League West rivals locked in a tight battle for a winning season.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. MST.

The Diamondbacks (77-75) took the first two games of the series, including a 6-5 victory Tuesday afternoon, to move 2 1/2 games ahead of the Giants (75-76) in the standings. Arizona has won six of the last 10 meetings between the clubs this season.

San Francisco will look to avoid a series sweep and snap a three-game skid. Wilmer Flores provided the offensive spark in Tuesday’s loss, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Jerar Encarnacion also drove in two runs.

Arizona’s Adrian Del Castillo delivered a key pinch-hit, two-run homer in the victory. Relievers John Curtiss and Ryan Thompson combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to secure the win.

Despite the recent results, the Giants have been installed as pregame favorites with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 9 runs.

Projections, however, slightly favor the Diamondbacks. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 6-5 Arizona victory, while its ELO system gives the Diamondbacks a 56.4% probability to win.

Following the game, the Giants travel to Los Angeles for a four-game series against the Dodgers beginning Thursday. The Diamondbacks enjoy an off-day Thursday before opening a three-game weekend set at home against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
