Texas Rangers at Houston Astros

HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Texas Rangers look to snap a two-game skid and avoid a series sweep when they face the Houston Astros in the finale of a three-game set Wednesday night at Daikin Park.

The American League West rivals have split their 12 meetings this season, but the Astros (83-69) have taken the first two games of this critical September series to push the Rangers (79-73) further back in the playoff chase. Houston won 6-3 on Monday and 6-5 on Tuesday.

Despite the recent results, the Rangers enter as a slight favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs. A projection from Interstat’s game simulator forecasts a 6-5 Rangers victory, though its ELO rating system gives the Astros a 52.9% probability to win.

The Rangers’ offense showed life in Tuesday’s loss, powered by home runs from Jonah Heim and Cody Freeman. Heim came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs. Reliever Carl Edwards Jr. provided two scoreless innings of relief.

Houston’s bullpen was the story Tuesday, with AJ Blubaugh striking out seven over three hitless innings of work. Colton Gordon and Bryan Abreu also provided key scoreless relief outings to secure the win.

Both teams have 10 games remaining after Wednesday’s contest. The Rangers will host the Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins before finishing the season with a road trip to Cleveland. The Astros will host the Seattle Mariners before embarking on a seven-game road trip to and Los Angeles to face the Angels.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CDT.
