New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The New York Yankees will look to rebound from a shutout loss when they continue their series against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Target Field.

The Yankees (83-67) were blanked 7-0 in Monday’s series opener, managing just two hits against Twins starter Simeon Woods Richardson, who struck out 11 over six innings. Austin Martin drove in four runs and Brooks Lee homered for Minnesota.

New York, which holds a slim lead for an American League wild-card spot, has lost four of its last six games. The offense has been inconsistent, scoring three or fewer runs in five of those contests. Carlos Rodón took the loss Monday despite a quality start, allowing two earned runs over six innings.

The Twins (66-84), long eliminated from postseason contention, have won three of their last five games. Their victory Monday snapped a two-game skid.

Statistical projections favor the Yankees to even the series. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 6-3 New York victory, and its ELO rating gives the Yankees a 60.8% chance of winning. The Yankees are installed as a -1.5 run favorite, and the over/under for total runs is set at 9.

Following Tuesday’s game, the Yankees continue their road trip with a four-game set against the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles beginning Thursday. The Twins host the Cleveland Guardians for a four-game series starting Friday.
