Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals
WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals will open a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Nationals Park, with both teams looking to salvage something from disappointing seasons.
The Braves (67-83) enter as the favorite after an 11-3 rout of the Nationals on Monday. Matt Olson and Drake Baldwin each drove in four runs in the victory, with Olson going 4 for 5 with a home run. Spencer Strider delivered a strong start, allowing one run over seven innings.
Despite Monday’s lopsided result, the season series has been tightly contested. The Nationals (62-88) hold a 4-3 edge in the seven meetings played prior to Tuesday, though the Braves have outscored Washington 40-32 in those games.
Atlanta has been inconsistent, splitting its last 10 games. Washington has fared slightly better lately, going 6-4 over its last 10, including a series win over Pittsburgh last weekend.
Projections for the opener are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 6-4 Nationals victory, while its ELO rating system gives the Braves a 56.3% probability to win. Betting markets list Atlanta as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 9 runs.
The doubleheader begins a crucial final stretch for both clubs. Following Wednesday’s series finale, the teams will not meet again until a three-game set in Atlanta starting next Monday.
First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. EDT.
