Chicago Cubs at Pittsburgh Pirates
PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs will look to continue their late-season push for a playoff spot when they face the Pittsburgh Pirates again on Tuesday night at PNC Park.
The Cubs (86-64) took the series opener 4-0 on Monday behind a strong pitching performance from Jameson Taillon and a home run from Pete Crow-Armstrong. Chicago has won seven of its last 10 games and holds a narrow lead for a National League wild-card berth.
Conversely, the Pirates (65-86) have lost four of their last five and were shut out for the 14th time this season in Monday’s loss.
The season series has been tightly contested, with the Cubs holding a 7-5 edge in 12 meetings. Six of those games have been decided by a single run, including a 4-3 Cubs win in their last meeting at Wrigley Field on Aug. 17.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 victory for the Cubs, while its ELO rating system gives Chicago a 58.8% probability to win. Despite the projections, Pittsburgh has been installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of -1.5. The over/under is set at 7 runs.
Following Tuesday’s contest, the two teams will conclude their three-game series on Wednesday. The Cubs then travel to Cincinnati for a four-game set against the Reds, while the Pirates await a weekend series against the Athletics beginning Friday.
