San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks

PHOENIX (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks, two teams locked in a tight battle for playoff positioning, open a critical three-game series Monday night at Chase Field with identical 75-75 records.

The National League West rivals enter the final stretch of the season deadlocked after a recent, volatile series in San Francisco just last week. The Giants took the first game 11-5 on Sept. 8 before the teams split the next two, with Arizona winning the rubber match 5-3 on Sept. 10.

Both clubs are coming off series against other opponents. The Giants were just swept in a three-game set by the Los Angeles Dodgers, including a 10-2 loss on Sunday. Wilmer Flores provided a bright spot in that defeat, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Diamondbacks, meanwhile, arrive home after taking two of three from the Minnesota Twins, capped by a 6-4 victory on Sunday. Catcher James McCann was the hero, driving in four runs including a home run, while pitcher Nabil Crismatt delivered five scoreless innings of relief for the win.

The season series between the Giants and Diamondbacks has been fiercely contested, with Arizona holding a slight 6-5 edge over the 11 games played so far in 2025. The teams have not met in Phoenix since a four-game set in early July, which they split 2-2.

Projections for the series opener are mixed. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a narrow 7-6 victory for the Giants. However, its ELO rating system gives the Diamondbacks a 55% probability to win. Betting markets align with the latter, installing Arizona as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under set at 9 runs.

Following this series, both teams face daunting schedules. The Giants continue their road trip with a four-game series against the rival Dodgers. The Diamondbacks will remain at home to host the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend before a final, pivotal stretch against the Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. PDT.
