Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Interstat) — The Toronto Blue Jays, riding a wave of late-season momentum, open a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at George Steinbrenner Field on Monday night.

The Blue Jays (87-62) arrive in Florida after a dominant three-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, capped by an 11-2 victory on Sunday. George Springer led the charge, going 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs, while starter Shane Bieber delivered six strong innings, allowing one earned run.

Toronto has won seven of its last 10 games and appears to be peaking as the regular season enters its final stretch. Their potent offense was on full display last week, scoring 28 runs in the three-game set against Baltimore.

Conversely, the Rays (73-76) are limping toward the finish line after dropping two of three to the Chicago Cubs over the weekend, including a 4-3 loss on Sunday. Despite a home run from Junior Caminero, Tampa Bay’s inconsistent play continued; they are just 5-5 in their last 10 contests.

The recent history between these AL East rivals heavily favors the Rays. When the teams last met in May, Tampa Bay swept a three-game set from the Blue Jays at Tropicana Field, outscoring Toronto 19-2. The Rays won five of the six matchups played that month.

However, the current trajectories of the two clubs are vastly different. Projections reflect Toronto’s superior form, with Interstat’s game simulator forecasting a 7-4 Blue Jays victory. Their ELO rating system gives Toronto a 53.7% probability to win. Betting markets also favor the visitors, installing Toronto as a -1.5 run favorite with an over/under of 8.5.

Following this series, the Blue Jays continue their road trip with three games in Kansas City before returning home. The Rays will remain in Tampa to host the Boston Red Sox before embarking on a difficult road trip to Baltimore and Toronto.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EDT.
