Kitchener at Guelph

GUELPH, Ontario (Interstat) — The Kitchener Rangers will visit the Guelph Storm on Sunday in a minor league hockey matchup at Sleeman Centre, with both teams looking to build on recent form in the Ontario rivals’ third meeting of the season.

Kitchener enters at 7-7 after a 6-3 home win over Guelph in the most recent meeting between the teams. Luca Romano paced that effort with two goals and an assist on five shots on goal, while Luca Santala added a goal and an assist and Cameron Arquette scored twice. Romano has been productive over his past eight games, totaling four goals and six assists, including a two-goal, one-assist performance against Guelph. He also has shown a willingness to shoot, with 33 shots on goal across that span. The Rangers will need that type of production as they take on a Guelph team with a strong record at home.

Guelph is 9-3 and owns a 6-0 home win over Kitchener earlier this season, though Kitchener won the most recent matchup 6-3. Ryan Roobroeck is the player to watch for the Storm. He has produced seven goals and six assists over his past eight games, with 46 shots on goal in that stretch. Roobroeck recorded a goal and an assist in the 6-0 home win over Kitchener and had a goal on nine shots in the most recent loss to the Rangers. Tyler Hopkins and Joshua Avery also scored in the most recent meeting for Guelph, giving the Storm secondary scoring options to complement Roobroeck.

The Rangers have had mixed results this season, with wins over Oshawa, Niagara, Saginaw and Kingston, along with close losses to London, Saginaw and Flint. Kitchener’s recent 6-3 win over Guelph showed its ability to generate offense, and the Rangers will try to carry that momentum into a road environment. Guelph has been one of the stronger teams in the early season, with wins over Sudbury, Flint, Sarnia, Owen Sound and Windsor. The Storm’s 6-0 win over Kitchener earlier this season remains their most emphatic result against the Rangers.

Sleeman Centre will host the Sunday matchup as Guelph looks to protect home ice and Kitchener aims for a second straight win over the Storm. The game is part of a minor league hockey schedule that has both teams focused on climbing the standings. Interstat’s game simulator projects a final score of Guelph 4, Kitchener 3. Interstat’s ELO system gives Kitchener a 74.7 percent probability to win, and the over/under is 6.5.
