CHARLOTTE (Interstat) — Charlotte defeated Springfield 3-2 on Friday at Bojangles Coliseum, improving to 5-2 this season while Springfield fell to 2-5. Springfield scored once in the first period and once in the second. Charlotte scored once in the first and twice in the second. Simon Robertsson led Springfield with one goal, one assist and two shots on goal. Michael Buchinger also scored for the Thunderbirds. Matvei Shuravin had one goal, one assist and three shots for Charlotte, while Gracyn Sawchyn scored once and added three shots and four penalty minutes. Brett Chorske contributed two assists and three shots, Nate Smith scored once and had one shot on goal, and Jack Devine, Sam Lafferty and Riese Gaber each recorded an assist, with Lafferty adding two shots and Gaber one. Charlotte goaltender Kirill Gerasimyuk made 17 saves on 19 shots. The attendance was 5,830.
