SPRINGFIELD (Interstat) — The Amarillo Sod Poodles will visit the Springfield Cardinals on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, for Game 2 of their Texas League (AA) playoff series at Hammons Field. First pitch is scheduled for a 74-degree evening in Springfield, Mo.

Amarillo enters at 78-61. Springfield is 79-58. The Sod Poodles are expected to start Yhoiker Fajardo, who owns a 5-6 record this season. Springfield’s probable pitcher was not listed.

Amarillo’s player to watch is Sawyer Hawks. Over his past seven appearances, Hawks has allowed five earned runs across 7.2 innings, with nine hits and five strikeouts. He threw two scoreless innings with one hit and one strikeout in the Sod Poodles’ 7-2 loss to Springfield on Sept. 20. Earlier in the month, he allowed three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning against San Antonio on Sept. 12. He also had scoreless outings of one inning each against San Antonio on Sept. 9 and at Frisco on Sept. 17 and Sept. 4. On Sept. 1 at Frisco, he gave up two earned runs on three hits in one inning. On Aug. 28 against Corpus Christi, he tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Springfield’s player to watch is Tai Peete. The center fielder went 5-for-5 with one home run and four RBIs in the Cardinals’ 7-2 win at Amarillo on Sept. 20. He also homered and drove in two runs while going 1-for-5 at Tulsa on Sept. 17. Peete had a 1-for-4 game against Tulsa on Sept. 15 and went 0-for-5 against Arkansas on Sept. 12. He was 1-for-4 against Arkansas on Sept. 11, 3-for-5 with one RBI on Sept. 9, 2-for-4 against San Antonio on Aug. 28, 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs on Aug. 27 and 3-for-4 with three RBIs on Aug. 26.

The teams have met 10 times recently, with Amarillo going 6-4 in those games. Springfield won the most recent matchup, 7-2, on Sept. 20. Amarillo won 13-2 on July 19, while Springfield took a 4-3 decision on July 18. Amarillo also won 9-5 on July 17, 5-4 in 10 innings on June 14, 6-2 on June 13, 13-4 on June 11 and 14-4 on June 10. Springfield won 18-3 on June 12 and 9-5 on June 9.

In the most recent game, Amarillo’s Danny Serretti went 2-for-4 with one home run and one RBI. Will Mabrey pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit, three walks and one strikeout. For Springfield, Tanner Franklin struck out nine over 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits. Domenic Picone added 1.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout.
