Castro’s 10th-Inning Single Lifts Worcester Red Sox Past Durham Bulls

WORCESTER (Interstat) — Allan Castro lined a sharp single to right field with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, scoring Max Ferguson from second base and giving the Worcester Red Sox a 2-1 victory over the Durham Bulls on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, at Polar Park. The International League (AAA) game took 2 hours, 33 minutes and drew 6,075. Worcester improved to 72-64. Durham fell to 64-77.

Durham grabbed the lead in the first inning when Caden Bodine homered to right field. Bodine finished 2 for 4 with one home run and one RBI. The Bulls managed four hits and grounded into two double plays, including a costly one in the ninth after Tre’ Morgan led off with a single. Xavier Isaac also grounded into a double play in the fourth. Worcester finished with six hits.

Durham right-hander Mason Englert was excellent, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out four. Worcester’s Jedixson Paez, the top star for the Red Sox, gave up one earned run on three hits over six innings and struck out four. Paez kept the game within reach after Bodine’s early homer. Romy Gonzalez doubled in the second for Worcester, but Englert stranded him. Tomás Nido doubled in the fifth, yet Nathan Hickey lined into a double play to end that threat.

The Red Sox tied the game in the eighth. Franklin Arias singled, Allan Castro walked and Romy Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk that forced in Max Ferguson. Gonzalez went 1 for 3 with one RBI. Castro went 2 for 4 with one RBI, including the game-winning hit. Worcester’s bullpen followed with key work. Tanner Houck struck out three in a scoreless inning. Osvaldo Berrios pitched a scoreless inning, and Hobie Harris earned the win with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. Harris is 4-0.

Durham’s Alexander Alberto allowed one hit over 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Kodi Whitley took the loss, yielding one hit and no earned runs over two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout. Whitley is 1-3. With Max Ferguson starting the 10th at second base as the automatic runner, Whitley retired Braiden Ward on strikes and got Franklin Arias to pop out before Castro lined his single to right. That hit ended the game.

The Bulls had a chance in the ninth when Tre’ Morgan singled, but Bodine grounded into a double play from shortstop Franklin Arias to first baseman Max Ferguson. Durham sent the minimum in the 10th after Jared Oliva popped out, Austin Slater struck out and Jack Suwinski popped out. Worcester then completed the walk-off in the bottom half. Tre’ Morgan had two hits for Durham, while Bodine supplied the early power.

Durham’s early lead held because Englert worked out of trouble after the first. He retired Worcester in order in the fourth and pitched around Nido’s double in the fifth. Paez matched him, retiring Durham in order in the fourth and sixth. The Red Sox finally broke through in the eighth when Arias singled and Castro and Gonzalez drew walks to force in the tying run. Worcester’s bullpen then kept Durham scoreless in the ninth and 10th, setting up Castro’s deciding hit.

Worcester’s record stands at 72-64, while Durham is 64-77. The teams are scheduled to continue their series Wednesday at Polar Park. Durham’s pitchers combined for 18 strikes, 51 balls and 18 balls in play. Worcester’s pitchers combined for 16 strikes, 53 balls and 16 balls in play. The Bulls’ Bodine provided the main early offense with his third home run of the season, while Worcester’s Castro delivered the decisive swing.

Before the game, Interstat’s game simulator projected a final score of Worcester Red Sox 6, Durham Bulls 4. Interstat’s ELO system gave Worcester a 55.4 percent probability to win. The actual result was a tighter, lower-scoring game that needed extra innings.
