Columbus Clingstones at Montgomery Biscuits
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Interstat) — The Montgomery Biscuits will host the Columbus Clingstones on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at Riverwalk Stadium, looking to rebound after dropping the series opener.
Montgomery enters 68-64, while Columbus is 63-65. The Biscuits are projected to win by Interstat, whose game simulator calls for a 5-4 final. Interstat’s ELO system gives Montgomery a 60.50% chance to win.
Columbus is expected to start Cam Caminiti (5-4). Montgomery is likely to counter with Santiago Suarez (9-4). The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a game-time temperature near 85 degrees.
Columbus won Tuesday’s opener 2-1 behind Davis Polo, who worked six innings of one-hit ball. Polo struck out eight and did not allow an earned run. He is the Clingstones’ player to watch Wednesday. Tyler LaPorte and Owen Hackman each added a scoreless inning of relief in the win.
Montgomery’s player to watch is Jackson Baumeister. In Tuesday’s loss, Baumeister allowed one earned run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight. Tommy McCollum added two scoreless innings of relief. Baumeister also turned in a strong outing against Columbus on Aug. 19, giving up one earned run on five hits over six innings with seven strikeouts. He has struck out 18 batters in his last two starts against the Clingstones.
The teams have split 10 meetings this season. Columbus has won five of the last seven in the series, including Tuesday’s one-run victory. Montgomery owns the better overall record and will try to use its home ballpark to even the series.
Both teams have been inconsistent of late. Columbus is 5-5 in its last 10 games, scoring 54 runs and allowing 54 in that stretch. The Clingstones dropped three straight to Pensacola before winning the opener at Montgomery. Montgomery also is 5-5 in its last 10, scoring 61 runs and allowing 48. The Biscuits went 5-5 on their recent road-heavy stretch, including a high-scoring series at Rocket City.
Columbus has shown power in the season series, posting wins of 7-2, 14-2 and 6-1 against Montgomery in August. Montgomery answered with an 18-10 win in May and an 8-2 victory in August. The Biscuits’ offense has produced double-digit runs twice in their last six games.
Wednesday’s game could hinge on whether Montgomery can solve Columbus pitching after managing just one run in the opener. With Suarez on the mound and a slight home edge, the Biscuits will look to even the series before the teams continue their set Thursday through Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium.
