Dunedin Blue Jays at St. Lucie Mets
DUNEDIN, Fla. (Interstat) — The Dunedin Blue Jays and St. Lucie Mets, locked in an even early-season series, open a Saturday doubleheader at Clover Park with identical 3-3 records and recent history favoring neither side.
First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday evening, though forecasts call for 76-degree temperatures and rain in Port St. Lucie.
The teams have split the first three contests of this six-game set. Dunedin won 9-2 on Friday behind a strong outing from Nolan Perry, who is a player to watch. Over his last two starts, including a win against these Mets, the right-hander has allowed just two earned runs over eight innings with 10 strikeouts.
St. Lucie counters with infielder Elian Peña, who homered in Friday’s loss. He has recorded a hit in five of his last six games.
The series has been tightly contested. The Mets took the opener 6-3 on Tuesday, the Blue Jays claimed a 6-5, seven-inning game on Thursday, and Dunedin’s decisive victory Friday leveled the series.
According to Interstat, the projection models conflict. The game simulator predicts a 4-3 Dunedin victory, while the ELO rating system gives St. Lucie a slight 53% probability to win.
Following the twin bill, the series concludes Sunday. Dunedin then hosts the Clearwater Threshers for a six-game series beginning Tuesday, while St. Lucie travels to face the Daytona Tortugas for a six-game set starting the same day.
