Norfolk Tides at Memphis Redbirds
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Interstat) — The surging Memphis Redbirds will look to extend their perfect start and continue their dominance over the struggling Norfolk Tides when the teams open a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds (6-0) have won the first five games of this six-game series, including a 5-4 victory Friday. They will send left-hander Bruce Zimmermann to the mound for Game 1. Zimmermann earned the win in Friday’s contest, holding Norfolk to two runs on five hits over six innings while striking out nine.
Norfolk (1-5), mired in a five-game skid, will counter with right-hander Dean Kremer in a quick rematch. Kremer took the loss Friday, allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings. The Tides have been outscored 30-14 in the series.
Memphis’ offense has been potent, supported by recent power from Matt Koperniak and Bligh Madris. Norfolk’s Jud Fabian homered in the Friday defeat, one of the few bright spots for a team searching for consistency.
Following the twin bill, the Redbirds embark on a six-game road trip to Charlotte, while the Tides return home to host Jacksonville beginning Tuesday.
