Hickory Crawdads at Myrtle Beach Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Interstat) — The Hickory Crawdads look to extend their recent dominance over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans when the teams meet Friday at 7:05 p.m. at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelican Park.

Hickory (44-31) enters the game with a 13-game advantage over Myrtle Beach (31-44) in the standings. The Crawdads have won three of the last four meetings in this series, including consecutive victories Tuesday and Wednesday by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Thursday’s game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Right-hander Moises Morales (3-0, 0.00 ERA in his last four appearances) is scheduled to start for Hickory. The 22-year-old has been nearly untouchable, allowing just six hits and one earned run over 15 2/3 innings in that span. He struck out five over five scoreless innings in Wednesday’s win over the Pelicans.

Myrtle Beach counters with right-hander Anhuar Garcia (1-0, 0.00 ERA in two appearances). Garcia threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts in Wednesday’s loss and has not allowed a run in five innings this season.

The forecast calls for clear skies with a temperature of 80 degrees at first pitch.

Hickory is coming off a 6-2 victory Wednesday, a game in which Morales scattered two hits and struck out five over five innings, and relievers J.D. McReynolds and Wily Villar combined for three scoreless innings of relief.

Myrtle Beach’s pitching has struggled against Hickory’s lineup, allowing 12 runs over the last two games. The Pelicans bullpen has been effective recently, however, with Yoendris Gonzalez tossing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts on Wednesday.

The Pelicans have dropped seven of their last 10 games overall. Hickory has won eight of its last 10.

After Friday’s game, the teams wrap up the series with games Saturday and Sunday. Hickory then travels to Augusta for a six-game series beginning Tuesday. Myrtle Beach returns home to host Fredericksburg for a six-game set starting Tuesday.

Projected starting pitchers: Hickory: RHP Moises Morales (3-0, 0.00 ERA last 4 appearances) Myrtle Beach: RHP Anhuar Garcia (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
