Syracuse Mets at Lehigh Valley IronPigs
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Interstat) — The Syracuse Mets and Lehigh Valley IronPigs meet Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Coca-Cola Park in the second game of a six-game series. The forecast calls for 74 degrees and cloudy skies.
Syracuse (37-37) enters with a .500 record, while Lehigh Valley (34-40) looks to build on a 4-3 win in Tuesday’s series opener. The IronPigs claimed that game in walk-off fashion, snapping a four-game losing streak in the head-to-head series.
Right-hander Xzavion Curry is a player to watch for the Mets. Curry, who earned the win in Syracuse’s 5-3 victory over Norfolk on Sunday, has won four of his last five starts. In that span, he has pitched at least five innings in each outing, posting a 2.70 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 27 2/3 innings. His lone loss came May 29 at Rochester, when he allowed five earned runs in four innings.
For Lehigh Valley, reliever Lou Trivino has been effective despite recent team struggles. Over his last seven appearances, Trivino has not allowed an earned run in 8 1/3 innings, striking out eight while scattering five hits. He last pitched Sunday in a 12-3 loss to Worcester, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The teams have split the season series 3-3. Lehigh Valley won Tuesday, but Syracuse took four of five in a series at home from April 28-May 3.
Syracuse went 4-2 in its last homestand against Norfolk, winning three of the final four games after dropping the first two. The Mets have won four of their last six overall. Lehigh Valley went 4-2 in its last homestand against Worcester, but the IronPigs have lost two of their last three.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Lehigh Valley win. The two teams will play four more games after Wednesday, including Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Coca-Cola Park before the Mets return home to host Worcester. The IronPigs travel to Rochester after the series.
