Tampa Tarpons at Dunedin Blue Jays
DUNEDIN, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Tarpons visit the Dunedin Blue Jays on Tuesday at TD Ballpark in a pivotal Florida State League matchup. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 89 degrees.
Tampa (36-33) enters the game having lost six of its last seven, including a 13-3 defeat Sunday to Fort Myers. The Tarpons’ bullpen has been stretched thin; reliever Parker Seay is a player to watch after tossing 1⅔ scoreless innings in that loss, allowing one hit. Over his past six appearances, Seay has posted a 2.08 ERA across six innings, striking out seven while yielding only one earned run. He has not allowed a run in four of those outings.
Dunedin (32-36) is coming off a 10-1 victory Sunday at Lakeland, snapping a three-game skid. Right-hander Troy Guthrie, the probable starter, has been dominant in June. In his last two starts, both wins, he pitched six innings each, allowing one earned run on three and four hits, respectively, while striking out 10 combined. Over his past five outings, Guthrie owns a 2.18 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 26⅔ innings.
The teams last met May 12-17, with Tampa winning four of six games, including a 10-4 victory on May 16. Dunedin won the most recent meeting 4-0 on May 17.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 win for Dunedin.
Following Tuesday, the two teams play a six-game series through Sunday at TD Ballpark. Tampa then travels to St. Lucie for a six-game set starting June 30, while Dunedin heads to Jupiter for a six-game series beginning the same day.
