HICKORY, N.C. (Interstat) — James Taussig homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers to an 8-3 victory over the Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Kannapolis jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning on a two-run homer by Taussig. The Cannon Ballers added two more in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Taussig. After Hickory cut the lead to 5-1 in the fifth, Kannapolis scored one in the seventh and three in the eighth, capped by Taussig’s second homer of the night, a three-run blast.

Hickory rallied for two runs in the ninth on a two-run homer by Angel Arredondo, his fourth of the season.

The Crawdads outhit Kannapolis 10-9, but the Cannon Ballers capitalized on key hits. Josh Springer went 3-for-4 for Hickory, and Arredondo finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Gabriel Rodriguez (2-0) earned the win for Kannapolis. Moises Morales (5-2) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over 4 1/3 innings.

The Cannon Ballers improved to 27-26; the Crawdads fell to 29-22. Attendance was 1,400. Time of game was 2:30.
