PREVIEW: Palm Beach Cardinals at Tampa Tarpons
TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Palm Beach Cardinals will look to rebound from a lopsided loss to the Tampa Tarpons when the teams meet Wednesday at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of [blank] degrees.
Palm Beach (29-22) enters the game having lost the series opener 12-1 on Tuesday. The Cardinals had won four of their previous six games before the defeat, including a 10-6 victory against Lakeland on Sunday. Tampa (25-26) won its third game in four tries Sunday, blanking Daytona 7-0.
Hitters to watch include Palm Beach left fielder Facundo Velásquez, who collected one hit and four RBIs with a home run in his last outing against Lakeland on May 31. Over his past 10 games, Velásquez has produced two home runs and eight RBIs.
Tampa right-hander Brennan Stuprich is expected to start. Stuprich threw five shutout innings in his most recent start May 31 at Daytona, allowing two hits with four strikeouts. He has logged at least three innings in each of his past four appearances.
The Tarpons’ offense was potent in Tuesday’s 12-1 victory, the most recent head-to-head meeting between the clubs. The teams are scheduled to play four more games this week at Steinbrenner Field.
Palm Beach will send a starting pitcher to be announced. The Cardinals’ bullpen has been effective recently, with Nelfy Ynfante throwing three scoreless innings in the May 31 win over Lakeland.
An Interstat simulation projects a 7-6 final score in favor of Palm Beach.
After Wednesday’s game, the teams continue their series Thursday through Sunday. Palm Beach then returns home to host St. Lucie beginning June 9, while Tampa travels to Bradenton for a six-game set starting the same day.
