Charleston RiverDogs at Hickory Crawdads

HICKORY, N.C. (Interstat) — The Charleston RiverDogs and Hickory Crawdads continue their six-game series Friday at L.P. Frans Stadium, with the Crawdads looking to build on a series lead following a 5-2 victory Thursday.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 71 degrees.

Charleston (23-19) sends right-hander Aidan Cremarosa (4-0) to the mound. The undefeated starter will look to cool a Hickory lineup that has scored 20 runs over the past three games, including an 11-5 win Tuesday and a 5-4 loss Wednesday before Thursday’s win.

Right-hander Kamdyn Perry (0-0) also is listed as a probable pitcher for Charleston, though it was not immediately clear whether he would start or follow Cremarosa.

Hickory (22-18) counters with a bullpen that has been effective in the series, but its starting pitcher for Friday had not been announced at press time.

Right-hander Aidan Deakins has been a key arm for the Crawdads. He earned the win Thursday against Charleston, throwing six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out four. Over his past four starts, Deakins is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 22 innings.

For Charleston, right-hander Alex Wallace has been used in multiple roles. In Thursday’s loss, he started and went 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts. Over his past five appearances, Wallace has a 3.86 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings.

The series has been high-scoring. Hickory won Tuesday 11-5, Charleston answered with a 5-4 win Wednesday, and the Crawdads took Thursday’s contest 5-2.

Taitn Gray homered and drove in a run for Charleston in Thursday’s loss. Paulino Santana homered for Hickory.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 Hickory victory, giving the Crawdads a 52.3% win probability according to its ELO system.

The teams continue the series Saturday and Sunday before Charleston travels to Columbia for a six-game set beginning Tuesday. Hickory heads to Salem for six games starting the same day.
