Clearwater Threshers at Tampa Tarpons
TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Clearwater Threshers visit the Tampa Tarpons on Wednesday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, with first pitch scheduled for [time]. The forecast calls for [temperature] degrees.
Clearwater (23-16) will start right-hander Justin West (1-2). Tampa (19-20) is expected to counter with right-hander Tyler Boudreau, who struck out seven over four scoreless innings in his last outing Sunday against Dunedin. The Tarpons lost that game 4-0.
Boudreau, a player to watch for Tampa, has a 2.93 ERA over his past three appearances, including a pair of six-inning starts. Over his last five outings, he has allowed eight earned runs in 19 innings with 22 strikeouts.
Clearwater’s Sean Youngerman also bears watching. The right-hander threw three scoreless, hitless innings with four strikeouts in Sunday’s 7-6 win against Lakeland. Over his past four appearances, Youngerman has allowed two earned runs in 13⅔ innings.
The Threshers took two of three in that weekend series against the Flying Tigers. Left fielder Nathan Humphreys went 3-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday’s win, and right fielder Manolfi Jimenez drove in three runs.
Tampa, meanwhile, has lost two straight and four of its last six. The Tarpons have scored three runs or fewer in three of their past four games.
The teams have split their six head-to-head meetings this season, with Clearwater holding a narrow edge. The Threshers won the last meeting April 12, 1-0, but Tampa took four of the prior five. Tuesday’s scheduled game ended in a scoreless tie.
An Interstat simulation projects a 6-5 victory for Clearwater.
The series continues with a four-game set at Steinbrenner Field through Sunday.
