Hickory Crawdads at Columbia Fireflies

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Interstat) — The Hickory Crawdads aim for a fourth straight win in their series against the Columbia Fireflies on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. at Spirit Communications Park, with temperatures expected near 86 degrees under cloudy skies.

Hickory (19-16) leads the season series 5-3 after winning three consecutive games, including an 8-4 victory Friday and a 7-5 win Saturday. The Crawdads will send right-hander Hiro Wyatt (1-1) to the mound, while the Fireflies (17-20) counter with righty Evan Siary (0-1).

Wyatt has been solid in his recent outings, working efficiently into the middle innings. He will look to give Hickory length against a Columbia lineup that has struggled to sustain rallies, scoring five or fewer runs in seven of its past 10 games.

Columbia has lost three in a row and five of its last six. The Fireflies have been unable to contain Hickory’s offense, which has produced seven or more runs in three of the last four meetings. Hickory center fielder Hector Osorio homered and drove in four runs Friday, providing a spark at the top of the order.

A player to watch for Hickory is right-handed reliever Kamdyn Perry. Over his last four appearances, Perry has allowed just two earned runs across 15 innings while striking out 19. He threw 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball Friday, scattering three hits and fanning six. His ability to bridge the gap to the late innings has been critical for Hickory, and he could again factor into the decision Sunday.

For Columbia, right-hander Kendry Chourio is a key arm to monitor. Chourio went 4 1/3 innings Friday, allowing one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts. Over his last three outings, he has a 1.50 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 12 innings. The Fireflies will likely lean on him for length, especially with a taxed bullpen that has logged heavy innings this week.

The Crawdads have been strong on the road, winning 10 of 15 away from home. Columbia has dropped eight of 13 at Spirit Communications Park.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Hickory win, suggesting a tight, low-scoring affair that could hinge on late-inning bullpen matchups.

Following Sunday’s game, Hickory returns home to host Charleston for a six-game series starting Tuesday. Columbia heads to Augusta for a six-game set against the Greenjackettes, also beginning Tuesday.
