Dunedin Blue Jays at Tampa Tarpons

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Tarpons and Dunedin Blue Jays open a five-game series Wednesday at George M. Steinbrenner Field, with both teams looking to gain traction in the early-season standings.

First pitch is set for 7 p.m., with the forecast calling for partly cloudy skies. The Tarpons (15-18) host the Blue Jays (13-20) in the second game of a six-game season series after the teams played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday in a game suspended by rain.

Dunedin enters after a 5-3 victory Sunday against Bradenton, a result that snapped a four-game losing streak. The Blue Jays have lost eight of their last 10 overall. Right-hander Carson Myers (2-2, 2.84 ERA) has been a bright spot out of the bullpen, posting a 0.00 ERA over his last three appearances totaling 6 2/3 innings. He earned the win Sunday against the Marauders with three scoreless innings, striking out three. Across his last seven outings, Myers has allowed one earned run in 11 2/3 innings with 18 strikeouts.

Tampa dropped its last game 5-3 at Fort Myers on Sunday, falling to 4-6 in its last 10. The Tarpons have been competitive in close games, going 6-7 in one-run contests. Right-handed reliever Bryce Warrecker (2-1, 2.61 ERA) has been effective in a late-inning role, posting a 0.00 ERA with three strikeouts over his last four appearances spanning 6 innings. He has not allowed an earned run since April 23.

The Tarpons lead the season series 1-0-1 after Tuesday’s tie. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Tampa victory Wednesday.

After Wednesday’s game, the teams continue the series Thursday through Sunday at Steinbrenner Field. Dunedin then returns home for six games against Fort Myers from May 19-24, while Tampa hosts Clearwater for six games in that same stretch.
