Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Syracuse Mets
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Lehigh Valley IronPigs look to extend their recent dominance when they open a five-game series against the Syracuse Mets on Tuesday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. under cloudy skies, with temperatures expected near 72 degrees.
Lehigh Valley (16-11) arrives having won five of its last six games, including a 4-2 victory in seven innings Sunday over Durham. Right-hander Jean Cabrera earned the win, allowing two runs on two hits with four strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Center fielder Steward Berroa provided the offense with a two-run homer, finishing 1 for 2 with three RBIs.
Syracuse (13-14) is looking to snap a two-game skid after a 6-2 loss Sunday at Worcester.
The pitching matchup features a pair of inconsistent arms.
Lehigh Valley left-hander Tucker Davidson (1-2) has been erratic this season. After a dominant 6.0-inning, four-hit shutout against Durham on April 26, he allowed six earned runs in each of his two previous starts in April — 3.0 innings against St. Paul on April 19 and 2.1 innings against Rochester on April 12. In his season opener April 5 at Durham, Davidson threw 4.2 scoreless innings.
Syracuse’s Jonah Tong (1-3) has shown flashes of dominance amid struggles. He struck out six over 4.2 innings in a loss at Worcester on April 26, allowing three earned runs. His best outing came April 21, when he fanned nine over 5.1 innings in a win at Worcester. However, Tong yielded four earned runs in 1.2 innings in his season debut April 2 against Toledo.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 victory for Lehigh Valley.
The series continues Wednesday through Sunday at NBT Bank Stadium before Lehigh Valley returns home to face Buffalo on May 5. Syracuse hosts Rochester starting the same day.
