Salt Lake Bees at Las Vegas Aviators
LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The Salt Lake Bees and Las Vegas Aviators wrap up a six-game series Sunday with a day-night doubleheader at Cashman Field. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., with the nightcap set for 7:05 p.m. The forecast calls for 78 degrees and cloudy skies.
Salt Lake (11-13) looks to build on a series that has seen the Bees win three of five games so far. Las Vegas (11-11) aims to even its record after a seesaw week. The Aviators took a 19-9 slugfest from the Bees on Friday, then Saturday’s game was postponed with no score.
Bees infielder Donovan Walton has been the hottest hitter in the series. He went 3 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs in Friday’s loss, following a 1-for-3, one-RBI performance in a 5-3 win Thursday. Over his last 11 games, Walton has five multi-hit contests and has homered twice.
For Las Vegas, designated hitter Joey Meneses has been equally productive. He went 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs in Friday’s win, extending a hot stretch in which he has recorded at least two hits in five of his last seven games. Meneses is batting .333 over that span with two homers.
The projected starter for neither team has been announced.
Salt Lake has won three of its four victories in the series by at least five runs, including a 14-3 rout Wednesday and a 8-5 decision Tuesday. The Aviators’ only win was Friday’s blowout, in which they pounded 19 runs on 20 hits. The Bees’ Denzer Guzman (2 for 5, HR, 2 RBIs) and Yolmer Sánchez (1 for 5, HR, 2 RBIs) also starred in that defeat.
A simulation by Interstat projects a 7-4 Salt Lake victory.
The Bees continue their road trip Tuesday with a six-game homestand against the Sacramento River Cats. Las Vegas heads to Tacoma for a six-game set against the Rainiers beginning Tuesday.
