Palm Beach Cardinals at St. Lucie Mets

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Palm Beach Cardinals will try to continue their dominance of their in-state rivals when they face the St. Lucie Mets on Sunday evening at Clover Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures near 82 degrees.

Palm Beach (14-5) enters with the best record in the Florida State League’s East Division, while St. Lucie (9-10) sits near the bottom. The Cardinals will send right-hander Nicolas Carreno (0-0) to the mound in his first start of the season.

The teams have played five times in the past week, with Palm Beach winning four of those meetings. The Cardinals routed St. Lucie 17-2 on Tuesday, then dropped a 5-2 decision Wednesday before winning 11-3 on Thursday and 12-4 on Friday. The Mets won the most recent matchup Saturday afternoon, 7-4.

Cardinals third baseman Jack Gurevitch has been the most dangerous hitter in the series. In Friday’s win, he went 3-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs. Over his past 10 games, Gurevitch is hitting .310 with three homers and 13 RBIs. He has multiple hits in three of his last four contests against St. Lucie.

Mets designated hitter AJ Salgado has been productive despite the team’s struggles. He went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI in Friday’s loss and homered again Saturday. In his last six games, Salgado is batting .333 with two homers and five RBIs.

St. Lucie will look to build on Saturday’s victory and create some separation after a series in which Palm Beach has outscored the Mets 42-21.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-4 Palm Beach victory.

Following Sunday’s game, Palm Beach returns home for a six-game series against Clearwater starting Tuesday. St. Lucie travels to Tampa for a six-game set beginning Wednesday.
