Tampa Tarpons at Lakeland Flying Tigers

LAKELAND, Fla. (Interstat) — The Lakeland Flying Tigers look to continue their dominance over the Tampa Tarpons on Friday night at Joker Marchant Stadium, with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. under cloudy skies and 77-degree temperatures.

The Flying Tigers (12-5) have won four of the last five meetings against their in-state rivals, including a 6-0 shutout Wednesday. Lakeland’s offense has outscored Tampa 31-13 over the past three games. Right-hander Ben Jacobs, who tossed five scoreless innings in that victory, draws the start for Lakeland. Jacobs (1-1, 1.08 ERA) has allowed two hits or fewer in three of his four outings this season.

Tampa (5-12) counters with right-hander Allen Facundo, who struck out eight over five scoreless innings against Lakeland on Wednesday in a losing effort. Facundo (1-0, 0.96 ERA) has posted three consecutive quality starts, allowing just two earned runs combined over 15 innings. The Tarpons, however, have dropped 10 of their last 11 games.

Lakeland’s lineup has received contributions throughout the order during the series. The Flying Tigers recorded six runs in Tuesday’s win before Wednesday’s shutout.

Tampa’s Allen Facundo recorded a 0.00 ERA in his appearance against Lakeland on Apr. 22, while Lakeland’s Ben Jacobs allowed two hits and struck out three in his start that same day.

The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-2 Lakeland victory.

After Friday, the teams play again Saturday and Sunday.
