Memphis Redbirds at Norfolk Tides

NORFOLK, Va. (Interstat) — The Memphis Redbirds and Norfolk Tides will meet for the seventh time this season Thursday at Harbor Park, with the series tied at three games apiece.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT under clear skies with a temperature around 75 degrees.

The Redbirds (13-8), who won 9-7 on Wednesday, will send right-hander Levi Wells (1-2) to the mound. The Tides (8-13) are projected to counter with right-hander Trey Gibson.

Gibson has been a key figure in the series, earning the win in Norfolk’s 7-3 victory on Tuesday after allowing one earned run over five innings. In his prior start against Memphis on April 2, he took the loss, surrendering three earned runs in four innings.

A player to watch for Memphis is left-hander Quinn Mathews, who started Tuesday’s loss. Mathews pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs. His season has been inconsistent, highlighted by an eight-strikeout, five-inning scoreless outing on April 15.

The teams have split the first six meetings of the year, with the road team winning four times. The series has featured offensive bursts, including a combined 16 runs on Wednesday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Norfolk 5, Memphis 4.

Following Thursday’s contest, the four-game set concludes with games Friday through Sunday.
