South Bend Cubs at Dayton Dragons
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Interstat) — The South Bend Cubs look to build on their early season momentum Wednesday when they visit the Dayton Dragons in the second game of a six-game series at Day Air Ballpark.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 71 degrees.
The Cubs (8-4) took the series opener Tuesday, 10-6, and hold a one-game lead in the Midwest League’s East Division. The Dragons (7-7) aim to even the series and get back to .500.
South Bend will send right-hander Nazier Mulé (0-0) to the mound for his first start of the 2026 campaign. The Cubs’ bullpen, a strength thus far, features a key arm in Kenyi Perez. The reliever has been dominant in two of his last three outings, including two hitless, scoreless frames with three strikeouts in Sunday’s 10-0 loss to Beloit.
Dayton will counter with right-hander Nestor Lorant (1-2, 4.86 ERA). Lorant is coming off his best start of the season, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts over five innings in a 6-5 win at Great Lakes last Sunday.
The Dragons’ offense is powered by outfielder Yerlin Confidan, who drove in four runs in that victory over the Loons.
South Bend has won seven of its last ten games, though it was shut out 10-0 by Beloit in its most recent contest prior to this series. Dayton has split its last ten contests.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is South Bend 7, Dayton 5.
Following Wednesday’s game, the series continues through Sunday. South Bend then returns home to face the Fort Wayne TinCaps, while Dayton hits the road for a series against the Lansing Lugnuts.
