Mets Rally Past Cardinals to Even Series

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Interstat) — The St. Lucie Mets used a late surge to defeat the Palm Beach Cardinals 5-2 on Wednesday at Clover Park, avenging a lopsided loss from the previous night.

Brayden Smith’s two-run homer in the second inning provided all the scoring for Palm Beach. St. Lucie tied it with two runs in the fourth off Jake Shelagowski, then took the lead for good with two more in the seventh. A Sam Biller RBI double in the eighth provided insurance.

Winning pitcher Elwis Mijares and four relievers combined to limit the Cardinals to six hits before Tyler McLoughlin earned the save. Starter Frank Camarillo allowed two runs over five innings for St. Lucie. Attendance was 416 and the game took 2 hours, 33 minutes. The Mets improved to 9-8, while the Cardinals fell to 12-5.
