River Cats Edge Rainiers in Pitchers’ Duel
TACOMA, Wash. (Interstat) — The Sacramento River Cats scratched out a single run in the second inning and made it stand for a 1-0 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday evening at Cheney Stadium.
Sacramento’s lone run scored when Grant McCray grounded into a force out, allowing Buddy Kennedy to cross the plate. That was enough support for five River Cats pitchers, who combined on a five-hit shutout before an announced crowd of 6,753.
Winning pitcher Wilkin Ramos (2-0) threw two scoreless innings of relief. Tacoma starter Jhonathan Díaz (1-3) was the hard-luck loser, allowing one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts over five innings. Gregory Santos earned his second save.
The win improved Sacramento to 11-7, while Tacoma fell to 9-11. The game time was 2 hours, 24 minutes.
